Fernand de Varennes is Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Université de Moncton (Canada), Extraordinary Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Pretoria (South Africa). He was elected United Nations Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues in June 2017. Mr. de Varennes completed his law degrees in Canada (LLB, Moncton), the United Kingdom (LLM, London School of Economics and Political Science), and the Netherlands (Dr Juris, Maastricht). He has received accolades from Africa, Asia and Europe, including the 2004 Linguapax Award, the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland, and the Tip O’Neill Peace Fellowship.
