Dr. María Emma Wills is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, a position she has held since 2005. From August 2012 to August 2014, she is serving as an Advisor to the Chair of the newly created National Center for Historical Memory in the Department Administrative Office of the President of Colombia. Until 2011, she led the Gender and Women Studies Team in the Historical Memory Group belonging to the National Reparation and Reconciliation Commission. From 2008 to 2011 with the gender team she conducted research on war and gender in the Caribbean Colombian Coast and with her team and colleagues she produced three reports on women, gender and war, a booklet on methods and concepts to include a gender perspective in historical memory narratives and a tool kit. Women who make history. Land, Body and Politics in the Caribbean Coast, one of the reports published last year, just received an honorable mention for the Montserrat Ordonez award from the Colombia LASA Section 2012. In 2007, Dr. Wills published a book on women’s inclusion and representation under democratic regimes, focusing on Colombia from 1970 to 2000.
