Sir Andrew Burns will assume the Chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in February 2014. He was appointed UK Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues in June 2010 and leads the British delegations both to IHRA and to the International Commission of the International Tracing Service (ITS). He works closely with a wide range of Holocaust academics, survivors and educational and social organisations in the UK. He was British Ambassador to Israel from 1992 to 1995, Deputy Under Secretary of State from 1995 to 1997, British Consul-General to the Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau from 1997 to 2000, and British High Commissioner to Canada from 2000 to 2003. He has been an International Governor of the BBC and has worked extensively on university governance.
